Sweet baby Logan, fresh from heaven, was my first ever posed newborn session. I have photographed dozens upon dozens of newborns in lifestyle sessions, but this was a first for me. I had always wanted to learn how to do posed newborn sessions. I have long been an admirer of the newborn photography of photographer friends of mine so when Logan’s mommy Malaena wanted to book newborn photos I told her I would love to try the posed photos for the first time. Since I have worked with Malaena on several commercial shoots, she is the CEO of LashWrap, I knew she would be so perfect to work with. Next I recruited the help of a local newborn photographer Niki Manning to mentor me through the session. I knew of Niki’s beautiful work because we both had worked for Bella Baby and overlapped briefly. I had never met her so I asked a former Bella Baby co-worker if she thought Niki would be open to mentoring me. So, I just called Niki out of the blue and asked her! She said yes and the rest is history! I am so so lucky to have had the chance to learn the ropes from such a talented photographer and to have had such a darling, perfect baby and such a beautiful, kind mother to work with! Malaena, thank you for trusting me to capture Logan during his first days of life! xo, Rebecca
Baby cocoon.
He looks like he is sleeping on a cloud!
I ordered a few things specifically for this shoot and one of them, the most pricey of all of them, was this wooden floor backdrop. It arrived right AFTER we wrapped the shoot! I was so disappointed, but I decided I wouldn’t let it go to waste after all. I photographed the puzzle bowl without baby Logan in it on the backdrop with the same lighting and then I photoshopped the two images together. (I had already taken a photo of Logan in the bowl on the regular floor.)
If this photo makes you worried for the safety of sweet Logan no need to worry because this photo was taken from above with black fabric draped over Malaena and baby Logan just laying on her lap.
Simplicity.
This might be my favorite image from the entire shoot and it was shot with window light rather than the studio lights. This image just transformed when I turned it to black and white. In color it was still beautiful, but the black and white version is magic! It’s funny how different certain images can be in black and white and color.
Sweet, sweet baby!
Beautiful Mama!
I love the dramatic lighting on this one and all the detail in his tiny hand and fingers.
This was a shot I almost always did when I worked for Bella Baby photographing babies at St. Al’s and St. Luke’s here in the Treasure Valley.
I love how Logan is resting his chin on his hand in this one!
I love Logan’s lips in this one!
Tiny feet!
Sleeping angel.
I always love a beautiful gallery wall, but sometimes it can be hard to know how to arrange everything. Here’s one idea for the Kelson family and for more ideas that I have created for other clients you can see those here: http://Merrakai.instaproofs.com/WallDisplays I hope these ideas will help my clients get their creative juices flowing so they can display their photos as works of art in their homes and enjoy them daily. I just recently added five different Grab & Go Frame Collections to my client storefront to make the process of getting photos up on your walls as easy as possible. Due to client requests I have also added photo books that can be ordered directly from client galleries.
This collage below is designed as a 10×20 print or canvas and is a great way to get multiple photos up on one wall hanging.
