Once upon a time, in the faraway land of Virginia, I was a young(ish), soon-to-be-mother putting my husband through law school. It was during that time that I met Phoebe. Phoebe threw a marvelous baby shower for me and my unborn bebecita (who is now 9!) and a fabulous time was had by all! This same Phoebe, years later, read a blog post of mine about me watching the movie Julia & Juliet where I mentioned I wanted to get a copy of ‘Mastering The Art of French Cooking’ by Julia Child. She said that one of her relatives had several copies and that she would send me one. Even though said relative had already donated her collection of that cookbook, Phoebe, thoughtful beyond measure, went and bought a copy for me and sent it to me! As you can see, Phoebe is a true treasure of a friend. I was SO so so excited to get to see her and meet her darling sons for the first time last month in New York City. And on top of that I got to photograph her family in Central Park! We met at 8a.m. on the corner of 5th Avenue and 84th Street, right in front of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We walked around the Great Lawn stopping for pictures and watching all the dogs…dogs can be off their leashes before 9am on Saturdays in Central Park, at least on that particular Saturday, probably not the Saturday the Pope was in town though! We only had one incident where little Nate was slobbered on by a large dog! It was a lovely clear morning, a bit on the warm side, and many wonderful moments were captured! Phoebe and Matt thank you so much for trusting me to capture your family at this fun stage! I can’t wait to come back to NYC and do it again! xo, Rebecca
As it turned out, The Great Lawn was actually closed when we arrived that morning! Luckily it opened up a bit later so we could take some photos with the magnificent New York City skyline as a back drop.
I was pretty surprised at how uncrowded this part of Central Park was!
Phoebe and Matt just live just blocks away from Central Park and they are both teachers at private all-girls high schools in Manhattan. Those are some darn lucky kids to have such well-educated and wonderful teachers!
This photo below is one of my favorites!
Can you tell a little about Nate’s personality just by his stance here? He is such a great kid!
Little Teddy was all tuckered out by the end!
Cute little toesies.
I couldn’t have planned this any better! This was just one of those serendipitous moments where everything came together perfectly! I love his reflection in this statue!
This one is a favorite too! Christmas card material right here!
A sweet father and son moment.
Can you believe how uncrowded the pathways were?
What a great dad!
In this photo Nate was keeping an eye on the tractor that was mowing the lawn. On a separate note, as my husband and I were waiting for Nate and Phoebe to arrive at our meeting spot, we saw a big construction back ho speeding down 5th Avenue really quite fast. Even the back ho drivers drive fast in NYC!
I love this mother and son shot! Phoebe told me that one of the photos I took of her might be appearing on the Dr. Oz show soon! So cool!To see more photos from Phoebe and Matt’s Central Park family photo session click HERE to see the slideshow.
