So what exactly is a photo party you ask? I was wondering the same thing recently. My husband told me about a photographer that lived near where he used to live in Washington who did Photo Parties all the time that became quite the rage and so I thought I’d give it a whirl. In the photography circles I associate with most it seems that these are often called mini sessions, but I wanted to distinguish between a mini session, which in my business is a 45 minute session, and these smaller, 10-15 minute themed sessions designed mainly for small children to capture them in the fleeting stages of childhood. I guess I sort of did something akin to a Photo Party with my own children and sometimes with a friend when I was putting together the yearly calendars that I used to do that have been on a hiatus for the last 2 years. These shoots were so fun and even though my children are getting older, I still hope to get them in some of these shoots as well. These next photos are of shoots I did many years ago of my own children, and I’m thinking my future photo parties may be similar to these in some ways…
I did this shoot with my sister-in-law Kacie in a field behind their home in Cache Valley. (Keep in mind, these photos are from awhile back before I had the equipment and training and experience that I have now, but I still love them!)
This shoot was with my dear friend Angie and this one was done on the campus of The University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. I still love this so much. This is Sydney, my daughter who is going on 9 now and the previous photo is of my son Talmage who is going on 8 now.
This one was in yet another state, Texas, with my kids and my friend Anayansi and her girls. She gathered the bags and I had the Tiffany’s boxes. The quotes were added for the calendars I was doing. This caption was suggested by my good friend Jenifer Gordon.
Another Texas shoot, but this one I was flying solo and it didn’t last long because I stepped in stinging nettle. OUCH!!
This one was in Ogden, Utah and was also a very short lived shoot because I was not thinking and didn’t have anything weighing down the balloon and right after I clicked the shutter for this photo, up went the balloon. I had some pretty sad kids!
So my first official ‘Photo Party’ was an Easter theme and to top it off my awesome neighbors have an awesome bunny that we got to have in the photos. Here is a collage of some of the photos from my Easter Photo Party…
I’m sad that my kids weren’t around though 🙁
I wanted to make the Photo Party festive, so I asked my friend Amber who is a party specialist (see her stuff on Etsy here) to come help me set up and it was super cute and festive indeed!
Here are some ideas for some future Photo Parties. These are not my photos.
I just love this cooking one so much! I would love to do one like this!
A Back to School Photo Party could be fun too!
Halloween, Christmas….there are so many fun ideas for Photo Parties! If you want to host a Photo Party and get a certain number of people to come to it, you would get your photos for free! So if you have any ideas for Photo Party themes or want to host one, be sure to shoot me a message! The Photo Parties would be a fabulous way to get photos to put in a calendar to give to grandparents for Christmas and I know from experience that calendars are a huge hit with grandparents!
Hope to see you at a photo party sometime soon!
